• Use everyday activites to enhance math skills. Make connections between math and activities that your child is interested in (e.g. sports, cooking, shopping).

  • Help you child practice math - play math games and help them practice with math rhymes and raps.

  • Encourage the use of math through technology (the internet or math software).

  • Create a positive math climate provide lots of positive feedback, have a positive tone and don’t dwell on your own math challenges or phobias (e.g. Don't say "I hate math. It was my worst subject.").

  • Communicate regularly with the teacher.

  • Get specialised instruction for your child if he/she has challenges in math.

  • Follow up and check homework assignments. Establish good homework routines and help your child prepare for tests.

  • Understand new math programs and school expectations – you are not expected to actually teach your child, but you will need to support and understand the curriculum and know what the teacher’s expectations are.

  • Encourage your child to talk about math.

  • Help to make math fun!
